Vinateros Bravos, Pais, Volcanico, Itata 2022
From the Importer: Pais is an ancient grape variety brought to Chile when the conquistadors settled there in the late 16th century. There are no laboratory clones, just a vine variety that has adapted to its environment for more than 400 years.
These old vines are own-rooted, dry-farmed and grown on pure basalt (volcanic soil), which gives it elegance and finesse. The aromas of cinder and ash one usually expects from volcanic wines the world over are folded into an array of soft red and orange fruits. It carries the aroma of "Chilean garrigue" which comes from the forest influence that surrounds all the vineyards. Leo Errazos's wines are as elegant as any red wine in the world and loaded with terrific imprint of their soils and surrounding flora.
