Cascina Val del Prete 'Luet' Roero Arneis 2023

$26.00

“Luèt” means “little wolf” in the local dialect—a playful hint that this wine might be soft, but it does have a bite. From vineyards in Priocca, Piedmont, the 100% Arneis vines grow in clayey soil with sandy veins, on east- and west-facing slopes at about 820 feet elevation. The vineyards are farmed organically, and the vines are over 20 years old.

Winemaking is gentle but expressive: 30% of the grapes get a 2½-day skin contact, while the rest are softly pressed. Fermentation happens in stainless steel, then the wine ages two months on fine lees before being bottled.

In the glass, it’s pale straw with greenish flashes—delicate, aromatic, and inviting. Aromas lean floral and aromatic, while the palate is soft, persistent, and textural.

This Arneis shines with seafood, risottos, white meats, and lighter fare that can let its texture and aromatic lift sing.
