Conde de Hervias 'Trinidad' Rioja 2019
This Rioja is a thoughtful blend of fruit from three historic vineyards around Torremontalbo: young Tempranillo vines planted in 1978 on pure calcareous-clay soil (“Romero”), 1958 vines on calcareous-clay with river stones (“Llano Alto”), and a portion from the pre-phylloxera 1874 vineyard “Las Arenillas,” rooted in sandy-calcareous-clay.
All fruit is hand-picked, organically farmed, and vinified with native yeasts. Fermentations happen separately per parcel, then the wines are aged 12 months in used 228 liter French & American oak barrels before blending and resting in neutral foudres. The final wine is unfined, unfiltered, a true expression of vineyard and vintage.
In the glass, expect a wine that brings together Rioja’s tradition and authenticity: red and black fruit-driven — think cherry and plum — with an earthy, mineral edge. There’s freshness and subtle tension thanks to the older vines and soil diversity, while the oak aging delivers a gentle frame, soft tannins, and structure.
Ideal with grilled meats, chorizo & pepper stews, or rustic lamb dishes.
