Domaine Leccia Patrimonio Rouge Corsica 2021
Bear with me a little bit here: This wine is made by Lisandru Leccia, at the family estate Domaine Leccia along with his aunt Annette. This is not to be confused by the Domaine Yves Leccia, made my Lisandru’s father, who struck it on his own back in 2004.
Family lineage aside, this bottling is Lisandru’s love letter to Niellucciu, a Corsican red grape that’s often dismissed as rustic and uninspiring. Here instead, we get purity, freshness, and a strong attention to detail.
Sourced from ~25-year-old vines planted in clay-limestone soils in Patrimonio. Grapes are hand-picked at optimal ripeness, fully destemmed, then fermented in stainless steel with indigenous yeasts. After fermentation the wine is aged for 18 months in stainless steel vats, without the use of oak, to preserve the grape’s natural character.
In the glass, this Patrimonio Rouge shows lovely freshness and balance—juicy red fruit, soft yet clear Niellucciu character (think cherries & red berries), a mineral streak, and a tension that comes without harshness.
It will work beautifully with lamb tajine with preserved lemon, braised beef shank, or other Mediterranean herb-rich stews. It’s a wine made for leisurely meals, where the accents of terroir and climate can really shine.
