Field Recordings 'Jurassic Park' Chenin Blanc Santa Ynez Valley 2023

$30.00

This bottling is a tribute to old-vine California Chenin from a truly unique spot. The grapes come from the 1978-planted, own-rooted Chenin Blanc vines at the eponymous Jurassic Park Vineyard in Los Olivos, part of the Santa Ynez Valley AVA.

True to Field Recordings’ ethos of minimal-intervention and vineyard-first philosophy, the grapes are hand-harvested and often used for spontaneous (native-yeast) fermentations with little interference — letting the vineyard express itself clearly.

In the glass, Jurassic Park Chenin Blanc is a pale straw color and offers a mix of citrus and orchard fruits. Expect aromas of Meyer lemon, lime zest, quince or pear, maybe a touch of almond or spice, and a mineral-tinged finish that hints at the old-vine roots and coastal-influenced soils.

On the palate, it’s fresh, zippy, and energetic, with crisp acidity and a clean, bright structure that retains a subtle density — ideal if you like Chenin-style tension and complexity rather than big oak-driven weight. The result is a wine that’s versatile and easy-drinking, but with a soul — a genuine snapshot of a lesser-known corner of California viticulture.

Pair with oysters, ceviche, green salads, or lighter seafood dishes. It’s also a fun match with picnic-style fare, light cheeses, or mixed-veggie plates.
