Mee Godard Morgon Grand Cras 2022
This is a soulful, terroir-rich red from one of Beaujolais’s most expressive crus made by one of Beaujolais’ rising stars. Made from 100% Gamay grown on the famed Grand-Cras slope — a steep, ancient volcanic hillside in Morgon — this wine captures the earthy energy and ripe fruit that make the Cru Morgon such a standout.
In the glass, Grand-Cras opens with bright red fruit — think raspberry, cherry, and wild strawberry — layered with hints of spice, violet, and a touch of minerality from the granite soils. The palate is medium-bodied and elegantly structured, with juicy acidity and fine, supple tannins that give it both approachability and presence.
The 2022 vintage shows lovely balance: lively fruit up front, earth-driven complexity in the middle, and a long, refreshing finish that makes you want another sip. It’s expressive without being heavy — a perfect mix of Beaujolais joy and hillside seriousness.
Serve with roasted chicken, mushroom dishes, charred pork tenderloin, or a rich lentil stew, where its earthy fruit and gentle tannins can play off savory flavors.
