Occhipinti 'SP68' Sicilia Rosso IGT 2024
This bright, energetic red from Arianna Occhipinti seems rooted in Sicily’s very soul! Made from organically-farmed 70% Frappato and 30% Nero d’Avola, grown on chalky, sandy soils along the ancient Strada Provinciale 68 (aka SP68).
The juice is co-fermented with native yeasts in concrete tanks for about two weeks, then aged six months (also in concrete) before being bottled unfiltered. This is a biodynamic wines, and very little sulfur is used.
In the glass, it opens with floral notes of violet and rose, plus wild cherries, plum, herbs, and a smoky-earth whisper. The palate is medium-bodied, tart and juicy, with balanced acidity and a gently dusty finish.
This is a great bottle to pair with grilled meats, tomato-based pasta, sausages, or anything herb-driven and rustic (in the best possible way).
