Tansy Wines 'Fox Hill Vineyard' Nero d'Avola Mendocino 2024
This bottling is a bold, vibrant expression of Sicilian heritage grown right here in California. The fruit for this inaugural release of Nero d’Avola comes from Fox Hill Vineyard in Mendocino, and the wine is crafted to showcase juicy fruit and lively structure. Expect layers of black cherry, red plum, and pomegranate, with savory accents of fennel fronds, tobacco, and a twist of blood orange zest.
Nero d’Avola , or the ‘black grape of Avola’, is known for its medium-plus body and spice/herbal notes. While traditionally from warm Mediterranean terroir, in Mendocino its natural acidity and moderate tannins come through beautifully, making the wine both expressive and easy to enjoy.
On the palate, this bottling strikes a great balance: ripe fruit drive with just enough grip and peppery spice to give texture and character. It’s vibrant and food-friendly by design — great with grilled meats, pizza with spicy sausage, hearty pasta sauces, or smoky barbecued fare — but just as delicious on its own.
