Theopolis Vineyard 'Theo-Patra's Cuvee Cerise' California 2022
Cuvée Cerise is a vibrant red wine crafted by Theodora Lee (aka “Theo-patra, Queen of the Vineyards”) in California’s Yorkville Highlands — a rugged, elevated AVA in Mendocino County known for mountain-influenced intensity and ripe fruit.
This cuvée is a blend of four classic Rhône and Californian varieties: 40% Grenache, 30% Mourvèdre, 20 % Syrah and 10% Petite Sirah. Harvested across September and October 2022, the grapes were fermented using a mix of whole cluster and whole berry techniques before ageing the blend about 16 months in 5% new French oak — a gentle touch that adds complexity without overwhelming the fruit.
In the glass it’s purple garnet with an expressive nose of blueberry, wild flowers, sage, and perfumed spice. On the palate it’s bright and juicy, weaving together preserved cherry, mulberry, and allspice with hints of subtle earth, chicory, and black pepper — all leading to a long, lively finish.
This Cerise plays nicely with braised lamb shank, grilled meats and vegetables, comforting stews, or pasta with rich sauces — but it’s also a delight on its own glass-by-glass.
-This wine will be featured in our Taste of Black Excellence class on February 7th. Tickets available here-
