Turley Wine Cellars 'Old Vines' Zinfandel California 2023
Turley specializes in preserving fruit purity and vineyard identity, and this ‘Old Vines’ bottling is a perfect showcase: it’s sourced from a selection of small blocks planted as far back as the 1920s–1950s, with vines rooted deeply in the diverse soils of Lodi and other historic Zinfandel regions. These mature vines produce intensely concentrated fruit with natural balance and complexity. This wine is all about celebrating the rugged heritage of California’s oldest vineyards.
Grapes are hand-harvested and fermented in open-top fermenters with gentle extraction to preserve aromatic richness and structure, then aged in a mix of seasoned American and French oak to support the wine without overwhelming its fruit expression.
In the glass, expect ripe dark fruit — black raspberry, blackberry, plum — wrapped in hints of spice, clove, black pepper, and a touch of earthiness. There’s real weight and plush tannins here, but balanced by bright acidity which keeps the wine lively and energetic.
This is a wine made for grilled meats, barbecue, smoky ribs, beef brisket, hearty tomato-based pasta, or aged cheeses.
